Pregnancy Craving - Grandma's Bunuelos

I had to find out the correct spelling to write this blog post. I have always thought that these sweet treats my Mexican grandma used to make were called monuelos...not so! Last night I had a serious pregnancy craving for these fried goodies, so I went the cheater route and used pre made uncooked flour tortillas. And they turned out so good that I could not stop myself from eating them. I was making 3 at a time and eating one. I had to make myself stop. Who doesn't love fried dough with cinnamon and sugar on top? Here I will share how you can make your own, you won't be disappointed!

1- Heat a frying pan with oil of choice to around 350 degrees or until just bubbling onto a wooden spoon when you check it.
2- Cut uncooked pre made tortillas into triangles (like a pizza)

3- Once oil is heated carefully place triangles into pan and fry a few at a time. Cook until just browned on both sides (30 seconds or more per side)
4- Placed fried dough onto paper towels to drain off excess oil.

5- In a bowl of cinnamon and sugar place your warm dough and coat both sides of each bunuelo.
6- Repeat until you have made your desired amount.

That's it! It's that simple. You can make these up before a Mexican dinner and serve them with ice cream for dessert. Or you can do like I did and fill up on them before dinner so that they become a replacement. Either way, you will love them and so will your family!
