The buzz around here

The past few weeks have been a whirlwind. Let me start by telling you that I buried my grandma a couple weeks ago. It is still pretty fresh on my mind and it is always hard to say good bye to someone you love. When someone you love dies, it helps you to cherish those around you even more. It helps you to become more closely knitted to those people in your life that you hold dear. I am so grateful to God that He allowed me to have the opportunity to witness to my grandma before her passing. It has definitely helped me through this time of grieving to know that she is in heaven because she put her faith in Jesus Christ and Him alone to save her. I was gone for 4 whole days for the funeral. I was so glad to get back home. It took awhile to catch back up on things after being gone so long from my family but everything is back on track once again!

Some friends of ours made a trip down here this past week from our home town. It was so nice to see them and their growing boys. We laughed together, we shared stories together and meals together, we even went to the zoo together. It was a fun time all week. I was so sad to say goodbye but alas they returned home to Grand Junction today.

trying to figure this out??!?

Next week Donnie will spend some time in Tucson going to school for his job. The kids and I will probably visit him and do a few things while we are there too, like visit Old Tucson and the Biospehere2. So hopefully we can make that happen!

Like I said before it has been a whirlwind of events. It will be nice when things slow down a bit in the summer. I am starting to like the idea of a hot summer day! HAHA....maybe not.

Cloth Diaper Update

Since my last update I have been researching affordable options for our family to continue cloth diapering. In the meantime, we are still cloth diapering as much as we can. Some of the time I choose to use disposables because we are out somewhere and I don't want to cart around dirty diapers. I also use disposables at night because I am too nervous about leaks. During the day I try to use cloth as much as possible. Currently I am still using the Baby Beehinds that I mentioned before, almost daily, only now I am able to use the large size g diapers that I have had in my stash. I have 7 of them. I use pre fold diapers for inserts and they work quite well. You can purchase the actual inserts from their website or even make your own but pre fold diapers are cheaper and readily available most places. I really like the fact that I do not have any leaks with the g diapers. Even though the recommended size for Mary is a size medium based on her weight, the large work great for her chubby legs. I do make sure that every time I put them on that the elastic around the legs is pulled out and around the leg as it should be. Another thing I like about them is that they are slim and not bulky like other cloth diapers. They are plain and cute and are easy to put on and take off.

Something else I like about cloth diapering a breastfed baby is the easy clean up. I can literally throw her dirty diapers in the diaper pail and wash them without rinsing them first. I am sure this will change after she starts solid foods. But for now it is great. You must bleach the stained parts with the sun regularly. This is somewhat of a hassle for me. But I am impressed that the sun takes the stains right out. I usually wash them on a long cold cycle without soap to get the icky stuff off of them and then follow up with a warm wash cycle with soap. I have been using Arm & Hammer laundry detergent. I have had no trouble with soap build up or smelly diapers. The washing soda in Arm & Hammer detergent is a powerful odor fighting agent and it's the right price, cheap! I also use this detergent on all of our clothes, so it works out well for me.

As I said before I am researching the best most affordable way for our family to continue cloth diapering. It is a reality that I cannot expect to use the same 10 cloth diapers until Mary is potty trained. I have found many options out there. There is a website called www.diaperswappers.com that you can buy new and used diapers that have been previously owned. You can find awesome deals this way and I am going to take advantage of it for sure! Another website that I found that sells pocket diapers at a great price is www.alvababy.com. I also like this website www.justsimplybaby.com. If you know of any other resources for cloth diapering on the cheap let me know in the comments. Happy cloth diapering.
