BOXES!!

This week has been out of control crazy. I have literally been doing something from the time I wake up in the morning until the time I go to sleep at night.

I have been trying to get our things out of storage and either selling them or moving them to a storage shed that a friend of ours is letting us barrow. It is absolutely ridiculous how much storage units cost! Outrageous! Since my husband is at work during the day and we have to be out of the storage unit by Saturday, I have been working hard to get out of there. I am sick of boxes. Between the boxes I have been going through with girl clothes from 0-7 years old and boy clothes up to 4 years old, not to mention all of the other boxes in our storage unit and the boxes that have been arriving at our house since the begining of this week, I have had my fill of boxes. Not that I don't appreciate the fact that I have been blessed with all of this stuff and that the people I love are sending our family gifts for Christmas. It is just hard to live with 6 people in such a small place. All 800 some square feet just isnt enough room for all these boxes and our other stuff. Slowly I am becoming more organized and have been selling some of the clothes.

The boxes with all of the Christmas gifts have been taking up a TON of space in my bedroom as I do not want to put the gifts out under the tree until the night before. If you don't have little kids you wont understand why but it is absolutely necessary when you don't have the ability to watch their every move so that they do not open their gifts too early. We will be opening our presents on Christmas Eve this year and we are also having a yummy ham with some of our friends that evening. Since Christmas is on a Sunday this year we decided that we would let the kids open their gifts early so they can play with their gifts ALL day and there wont be a lot of hustle and bustle when we are getting ready for church Sunday morning.

I am so grateful for our friend that has let us use their storage shed. WHAT A BLESSING. I am happy that I can at least hang on to some of the things we brought here from Colorado. I think I am a little bit of a pack rat. I just can't get rid of things until it is absolutely necessary. It does feel good to be getting rid of some things. I am sure that all can be replaced easily.

Today finally things have slowed down a bit to catch my breath before things speed back up this weekend.  It is definately time to take a breather, drink some hot cocoa and hang out with my little people. I hope everyone has a very merry Christmas.

Just thinking...

It seems like just yesterday since our family moved to Arizona back in October. We have been so busy. When I think back to all we have accomplished these last months I am grateful for lots of help and a great husband who has the vision to make it all work. The weather is so wonderful here! I could definitely get used to this kind of a winter. There is still so much to be done before Christmas next week. I hope I can keep on top side of it all.

Helping to decorate the tree!

The girls love to pretend to cook like mom!

Seriously

Glory has a giant duck. Guinevere has a spider hat. Silas is wearing a monkey on his back.

I have been reflecting on this past year. With whatever each year brings I always feel closer to my husband and greater contentment as a mother. I wouldn't trade spots with anyone. My life is truly blessed in more ways than a million. God has done so much in our lives. I know how underserving I am of all these great blessings. I thank God for His matchless grace.

Potato Soup

I love this recipe. It is not your traditional creamy potato soup. It is very good. I personally like it with a lot of pepper and a side of freshly baked bread.
1 Large onion chopped
6+ cloves garlic minced
2 tbsp. olive oil
5 cubes chicken bullion cubes
10 cups water
10 potatoes peeled & chopped into cubes
1 lb. bacon fried crispy & chopped

Fry onion & garlic until clear and browning. Add 10 cups water with bullion along with potatoes. Bring to a boil. Boil until potatoes are soft. Add crispy bacon just before serving. Salt and pepper to taste. YUM!

Smoking While Pregnant! REALLY?

How Smoking Affects Your Unborn ChildCan you imagine! A mother that is suppose to love and nurture her child, smokes cigarettes while pregnant! That is disgusting. In this world not only do we have women having silent abortions all of the time because of the use of birth control pills and other contraceptives, but we have mothers abusing their own children before they are even born. You cannot get me to believe that the child of a smoking mother will not be mistreated once it is brought into the world. The mom (or monster) smokes cigarettes habitually knowing that the cigarettes they are intoxicating their bodies with, are also intoxicating their unborn child.  This poor innocent child will have a higher risk of SIDS, athsma, lung infections, poor circulation, high blood pressure, low birth weight, and possible death at birth. What kind of selfish human being would want to hurt a little child before it even takes it's first breath. I can only describe this person as a monster! Not to mention the affects of second hand smoke. HEY MOM WHY DON'T YOU PUT THE CIGARETTE DOWN AND START CARING ABOUT SOMEONE ELSE OTHER THAN YOURSELF!

Christmas Cookies

On Thursday my friend and I baked cookies. We made a double batch of peanut butter cookies (at her request) and a double batch of sugar cookies. We stayed up really late baking the last of the sugar cookies in order to decorate them the next day. The kids had a blast squeezing the frosting just about everywhere. I have to say I also enjoy decorating them. It just doesn't feel like December without some Christmas cookies!

Recent Happenings

Last Saturday my husband started a new job. He is working for a fire restoration company. When someone's house catches on fire they go in and do all they can to make the place liveable again. It seems to be working out really well.
Sunday I bought my first newspaper for couponing. I have also found a website that helps me to find the best way to use my coupons, it is called http://www.thekrazycouponlady.com/. This website does all of the leg work for me and tells me exactly where I can find the coupons I need to get the best deals.

Monday is always a "catch up" day from the busy weekend. We are still working on homeschool as Christmas is approaching. I have found several websites that I use to keep my little people occupied with crafts, games, puzzles, and the like. One of the best websites I found is
http://www.activityvillage.co.uk/. It has tons of holiday fun for all ages. I also use this website on a daily basis to find coloring pages for my little people http://www.first-school.ws/.

Tuesday the kids and I made holiday chains out of construction paper. I really love this time of year. We will be making Christmas cookies and making alot more crafts in the next couple weeks.

Wednesday the kids and I made snowflake ornaments. We also made snowflake banners and the kids colored them beautifully! Did I mention I love this time of year?

Make your own baby wipes

A couple of years back some friends of ours, who have 9 children, showed us how to make wipes using paper towels. I didn't think too much of it, until recently. As I wrote in an earlier post I am trying to use coupons. And after finding a coupon for $1 off of paper towels I decided I was going to try to save money in other ways too. That's when I recalled my friends making their own baby wipes. Around our house we go through a TON of wipes. Between dirty diapers, wiping dirty hands, faces, feet, and the kids playing with them, it amazes me how many we use. Here is a very inexpensive way to make wipes out of items you probably already have on hand. For each "package" I make, it costs me right around 50 cents versus right under 2 dollars a package for these wipes.

Homemade wipes

l airtight container (big enough to fit 1/2 roll of paper towels)
1 roll of paper towels (the good kind)
2 cups filtered or distilled water
2 Tbsp olive oil
2 Tbsp baby wash

Mix wet ingredients in airtight container. Cut paper towel roll in half and remove center cardboard. Place halved paper towel roll into container along with your solution. Close container and turn upside down to evenly coat the paper towels. That's it now pull from the center of roll when in need of a wipe.

I used this baby wash and olive oil from my pantry. These wipes work really well. At first I was sceptical about the durablity and how efficiently they would do the job. But I have found that they work GREAT. They smell nice, leave no residue, and I know what's in them! I will be using these from now on.

Easy Recipe for Green Chile

1 large onion chopped
4-6 cloves garlic minced or crushed
2 Tbsp olive oil
3 lbs lean pork cut into bite sized pieces
salt and pepper (do not add too much)

Add above ingredients to a large pot and cook until golden brown

1 large can of diced tomatoes with juice
6 diced green chiles (adjust to desired heat)
6 cups water
chicken bullion cubes (enough for 6 cups broth)

Add to pot. Bring to boil, cover and set on medium low heat for 45 minutes. Then add a mixture of flour and water to thicken to desired consistency. Return to heat for 15 minutes or until thickened.

Now you have some DELICIOUS green chile! Serve with fresh tortillas and beans if desired.

Couponing

I have recently taken an interest in couponing. My husband thinks it's a great idea. I can only see one big drawback to saving a lot of money. I won't be able to get very many coupons for organic foods, which I prefer. I am currently studying how to efficiently and realistically coupon at Couponing 101.  This website explains the couponing basics and has been really helpful. Today alone I saved right under 5 dollars using random coupons I found on the internet. Hoping to be an expert on the subject pretty soon.

Finally

It is crazy to me that I have been reading blogs of other people for so long and have never taken the time to write my own. Just like everyone else, I have an opinion about everything and it will be nice to have a place to share it.
